Online Degree Show

I have submitted 5 of my current images into the Graduate Showcase. This goes live on 25th of May, the same day as the Degree Show private viewing.

Competition 3 – Lensculture, Magnum Photography Awards

The third competition I have chosen to enter is the Magnum Photography Awards through Lensculture. Working with their official partner BBC Culture photographers selected could potentially gain exposure to 3.5 million viewers. Winners will get a digital display at The Photographers Gallery in London and access to Magnum Photography Workshops.

The cost was $20 to enter 1 image.  As a student I got 30% off this taking the price down to $14.

I have entered the same image as I have entered into the BJP Breakthrough Awards.

Competition 4 – Lenscratch

The fourth competition I am looking at is a student competition with Lenscratch, an online photography blog .

The prize is in $ and allows for the free upload of 15 images, I need to write a third person biography to enter this one and the deadline is 28th of may so this will be completed in the next week after the hand in deadline. I also need to confirm that this is open to international students and not just those based in USA.

I will either enter my bod of work from my most recent project or I will use the series I had created for last years Final Major Project.

Competition 2 – BJP Breakthrough Awards

The second competition I decided to enter was the BJP Breakthrough Awards, This is open to Undergrads and Recent Graduates studying BA or MA courses. The prize is a chance to feature in an exhibition at Free Range in Londons Truman Brewery. From my understanding Judging starts from 23rd May, and successful entrants will be notified sometime after that and before Free Range.

For this competition I decided to enter work from my Degree Major Project, I have chosen what I felt was the strongest image containing both healthy and junk food.

Entering Competitions

This is completely out of my comfort zone but quit exciting at the same time. I have entered my work in other online competitions before, on a forum I belong to where amateur photographers take a photo that month, there is a chosen theme and it is up to each photographer to interpret that as they see fit.

Within my first few weeks of University I entered an image I had taken from the London Fashion Weekend Show and it was selected by my peers as the winner.

I was a regular entrant to the competition, but with the commitment to university I let this slip and this was my last entry. With more time on my hands I fully intend to take part again.

I also registered with an online competition site called view bug, they have a number of competitions running at all times and I occasionally look to see if there is anything worth entering. I need to update my profile on here though and find more competitions to enter, what has put me of until this stage is talking about myself as an artist and talking about my work.

Competition 1 – SITTP, On Your Travels

The first competition I attempted to enter was a monthly one run on The Societies web site, this one below is for SITTP:

On Your Travels

The three images I had chosen to enter were taken on my trip to Bruges in May 2016. I checked the rules thoroughly for dates etc but there were none and I figured it was still work from within the last year so I would have a go at entering. The winner gets a years free membership to the society, 2nd and 3rd place get 6 months membership.

I wouldn’t usually add frames to my work however the advice when entering was to add frames, and looking at some of the other entries they had frames of different degrees around their images.

I watched a youtube tutorial video by Gavin Hoey to help me create the frames in photoshop.

These are screenshots of the frame creation process.

After checking all the requirements, image sizing and pixel sizes I was satisfied I could proceed with entry. After a number of attempts however I couldn’t get the images uploaded. I will attempt this again but with the help of a technical friend of mine, as this is something I am not used to I am not sure If i have got all the processes correct.
